Aboriginal Cultural Competence Framework The Victorian Government's vision is that every child thrives, learns and grows, is valued, respected and has the opportunity to become an effective adult, irrespective of family circumstances and background.This paper describes the understandings, principles and service context that underpin Aboriginal cultural competence for the child and family services system in Victoria.

Best Interest principles: A Conceptual Overview This paper explores some of the theoretical underpinnings and practice ramifications of the Best Interest principles and the benefits envisioned for children, young people and their families.

Foster Their Culture: Caring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children in Out of Home Care This book will assist foster carers with information that will focus on the cultural support needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children; broaden recognition of the importance of culture and identity to the well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care; respond to the relevant priorities withing the National Plan for Foster Children, Young People and their Carers 2004-2006; support carers in their role and assist in the establishment of good practice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander foster care arrangements.

Yarn Strong Sista Koori Education Consultancy  
provides support and information for educators (Pre-School to Post-Secondary) who aim to deliver an Indigenous inclusive curriculum. These programs include training, storytelling, and educational resources. Yarn Strong Sista promotes both traditional and contemporary Indigenous culture, people and values. Yarn Strong Sista offers creative Indigenous educational experiences that are developed in consultation with Traditional Owners, Elders and Communities. This diverse and dynamic team of Education Consultants are committed to the preservation of Indigenous culture.  This is achieved by community empowerment, knowledge of best practice and reconciliation.

Our Purpose

 Advocate for foster carers, their families and the children in their care to ensure all
voices are heard;
 Work in partnership with agencies and the sector to provide an improved foster care
system;
 Provide support and learning for carers directly, through various forums, or in
partnership with agencies;
 Build FCAV intelligence in order to be identified as a recognised and viable authority
in the sector;
 Promote the awareness of foster caring to assist in public understanding of the role
and agency recruitment of carers;

Our Vision

To provide information, support and advocacy to carers that ensures they can offer
children and young people in their care a healing environment which assists the child or
young person to reach their full potential.
