Care Allowance

  • Letters and meetings with the Minister and DFFH secretary to advocate for an increase in the real value of the Care Allowance to cover the costs of care - See Care Allowance Campaign

  • Request for DFFH explanation of the basis on which the 2% cost of living increase to the Care Allowance was calculated for 2021/22 and 22/23

  • Participation in the Centre for Excellence study on the economic value of care to the Victorian economy by Cube Research (completed January 2022, yet to be released)

Client Expenses

Discussions with DFFH, Agencies and the Commissioner for Children and Young People to streamline application processes and increase funding amounts for all children in care to address out of pocket expenses for costs not covered by the Care Allowance

CIMS

  • Participation in DFFH CIMS review

  • Advocacy to streamline referrals and investigations by Victoria Police including DFFH establishing a Victoria Police contact officer to discuss the referral process

Care Help Desk

Advocacy for funding and establishment of the Care Help Desk to provide direct support to carers to obtain essential placement support documents. Currently working with DFFH on proposals to expand the scope of the Help Desk to include support for passport and NDIS applications

Annual one-on-one meetings with the Minister and DFFH Secretary

Commissioner for Children and Young People

Bi-annual meetings with the Commissioner for Children and Young People

Child Dental Benefits Schedule (Medicare Dental)

Submission to the review of the Child Dental Benefits Schedule to advocate that all children in care be automatically eligible for Medicare Dental

Federal Family Support Payments

Discussions with Department of Social Services to better understand carer access to Federal Government family support payments including standardisation in application processes and improvements in available carer information
