Kristie has been a foster carer with her husband, since 2008 and a kinship carer prior to that. They started fostering in NSW and then later Victoria, giving them a unique position to see the differences within both systems, positive and negative,
They currently live in South West Victoria where they foster 2 long term indigenous children and another short term child. All 3 young people have varying disabilities, and Kristie has become a very passionate advocate in this space. They also continue to do respite and emergency care. Kristie has recently left a career in farming to work in the disability/youth sector and is currently studying Certificate 4 in Youth Work. She aims to work with young people who have been through the juvenile justice system.
In her spare time Kristie loves being the President of the School Council of the local specialist school along with an executive member of their Parents Association. She also loves taking part in the shared lives training where she helps to give a current accredited foster carer prospective and experience to the course.
