The Foster Care Association of Victoria (FCAV) is conducting a state-wide foster carer census again this year and would like to hear from all accredited current, past or on-hold foster carers to learn more about your experience, and how foster carers can best be supported in Victoria.
The FCAV will ask:
What resources are most useful and/or missing from your support;
Areas of your biggest concern or challenges; and
If the profile of foster carers in Victoria has changed since the last census in 2024.
This information is vital evidence of the circumstances, experiences and needs of foster carers providing care to the children and young people in care in Victoria.
Following the Carer Census in 2024, your results have been used to:
Produce a public report on the state of foster care in Victoria
Provide evidence of carers’ lived-experiences across the care journey
Identify the key pressures driving carer attrition
Amplify carer voices in FCAV advocacy the Care Allowance campaign
Inform advocacy for targeted supports, including a Carer Support Help Desk and NDIS-related responses
Progress gender equity advocacy across the sector
The FCAV has again engaged independent company, ORIMA Research, to conduct the Census. Any information provided to ORIMA Research is strictly confidential and no individual person will be identified.
Carers registered with a current email address with the FCAV will receive a unique link and information from Orima Research to complete the survey. The online survey will launch on 14th April 2026 and remain open until 12th May 2026. If you are not yet a member of the FCAV or have not registered an email address with the FCAV, please email fcav@fcav.org.au or call (03) 9416 4292 and you will be added to the Census mailing list.
Carers who complete the survey can chose to enter a prize draw to win one of 8 x $50 gift vouchers.
