Foster Care Week is an annual event celebrating and raising awareness about foster care; the carers providing it, and their role in the lives of the children and young people of Victoria who need them.

The events and celebrations held during foster care week aim to highlight and appreciate our valuable pool of foster carers and the contribution they make in the lives of children and young people and to the community.

The FCAV hosts a Foster Care Week calendar of events that take place across the sector and the state as well as themed engagement on social media to spread the word. Thank you to the agencies and ACCOs that hosted a range of fantastic events and engaged with carers making Foster Care Week 2025 - ‘Time to Care' was a celebration of awareness and recognition of the role of foster carers in children's lives, in the child protection sector and in the community.

Foster Care Week is an important time to elevate the carer voice and build on sector engagement, to highlight advocacy priorities, and increase collaboration and partnerships for the shared aims of better support to home-based care, carers and children in care.

This is an opportunity to capitalise on the greater media and community awareness to promote foster carers, undertaking one of the most challenging but important volunteer roles in the community.

We hope carers were able to attend the carer appreciation events around the state with their agencies. The FCAV was pleased to be involved in some of the events, meeting carers and agency staff such as Samantha Hauge, CEO speaking at the Mallee Family Care - Time to Care Dinner. Life Without Barriers hosted a Paint & Sip afternoon yesterday, Sunday 21st September, to celebrate their carers for Foster Care Week 2025 and FCAV's Deb Collard was honoured to join both foster carers and the team at LWB including their Regional Director Wendy Hazeldene, and Carer Practice Manager, Rebecca Granata. It was an honour to meet the carers and teams celebrating foster care week around the state.
